In this video, Professor John Ahr of the Online Jewelry Academy demonstrates how to make a very simple clasp from wire.

This simple ball end clasp is very rudimentary like a paper clip.  But, it functions very well.  And, it's very adaptable to many contemporary designs.  It's also great for someone who suffers from arthritis since there is no need to tug on any levers.
