In this video, Professor John Ahr of the Online Jewelry Academy takes us on a field trip to a professional plating facility in the heart of the Los Angeles Jewelry District. We'll learn from Kenny Vogel of CalMart Plating how a plating facility can put a wide variety of metal finishes on your jewelry projects.
Before you invest in expensive raw materials, it would be a good idea to make a test piece in a less expensive metal like brass or copper and have it plated. Plating is also a good way to go if your job requires you to travel with samples from your inventory. You won't care as much if plated samples were to get lost or stolen. And you won't be out of a lot of money either.
