In this video, Prof. John Ahr demonstrates how to make your own solder pick by up-cycling an ordinary hanger for clothing.  This basic operation can be used to put handles on a variety of hand tools on any jewelers bench.

This solder pick will work just as well as the expensive ones suppliers try to sell you.  The paint or lacquer on the hanger can be scraped or burned off easily.

Some of you are purists.  And you'll only work with a titanium solder pick that you paid top dollar for from a supplier.  There's nothing wrong with that.  But, don't you want to save a little money?  And, don't you want to recycle steel and help keep it out of our landfills?
